Cooling air through an adiabatic process is more economical and consumes less energy than traditional Carnot cycle cooling (direct expansion air conditioning). The evaporative adiabatic cooling system cools the air drawn from outside by using the natural process of water evaporation before introducing it inside the space, without the need for energy-intensive compressors and highly polluting refrigerant gases. It is a modern system aligned with the ecological transition compared to traditional air conditioning systems.

Why Choose Adiabatic Cooling?

The choice of system depends significantly on the application, the activity performed in the cooled environment, whether the environment is completely enclosed and not affected by constantly opening doors and windows, the type of comfort required inside the space, the need to ensure air exchanges, the difference in energy consumption needed to neutralize the heat to be dissipated, and the possibility of operating in free cooling during less hot periods and times (e.g., evenings or mid-seasons) to save energy while still ensuring necessary ventilation and air exchanges.

Advantages of ColdAIR

ColdAIR allows cooling, ventilation, and ensuring the necessary exchanges of fresh, oxygenated air for all large environments, including those not fully insulated and enclosed, such as greenhouses, animal farms, and venues for popular festivals, conventions, and catering, hosting dozens or hundreds of people.

The system offers a temperature reduction of about 5-6°C compared to the outside temperature, in compliance with health and safety regulations governing these types of activities. A greater difference would cause discomfort to the people present.

The cooled air tends to settle downward, pushing the hot, stale air toward the ceiling, which exits through skylights, other natural openings, or exhaust fans, thus achieving air exchanges and “cleaning” the environment. The exhaust of stale air prevents excessive overpressure in the environment.

Free Cooling and Water Saving

During less hot hours or mid-seasons, the system can operate in free cooling, utilizing the cooler outside air to ensure necessary air exchanges, saving water and energy. ColdAIR coolers are equipped with an automatic water-saving system that optimizes water consumption based on necessity to avoid unnecessary waste.

The humid air exiting the system mixes with the warmer, drier air of the environment; the final relative humidity is never more than a few percentage points higher than the outside air, thanks to the large air exchanges provided by the system.

COLDAIR Cooler FPA WALL INSTALLATION

Due to the large volumes to be cooled, poor insulation of buildings, the presence of large glass surfaces, and many people, a traditional air conditioning system would require very high cooling power, resulting in high energy consumption and installation costs. An adiabatic system, on the other hand, would cost about a third and consume roughly a tenth of the energy for equivalent cooling capacity.

It is also noteworthy that an adiabatic system produces about 15-20 air changes per hour depending on the operating speed, whereas a traditional air conditioning system cannot produce air exchanges without even higher cooling power and energy consumption.

Water Source and Legionella Prevention

The adiabatic system is supplied with mains water (potable) or sanitized water to prevent the spread of bacteria like Legionella. Conditions that favor the proliferation of Legionella include stagnant water at a temperature above 23°C at the atmospheric pressure of the 45th Parallel.

ColdAIR coolers are equipped with a management system that prevents water stagnation in the machine. This includes a periodic cycle of washing the evaporative packs and draining residual water; when the machine is turned off at the end of the day, the control system drains all residual water to avoid stagnation and the potential proliferation of microorganisms, including Legionella.

For added assurance, the machine is designed to automatically drain water and remain dry in case of a power outage. ColdAIR coolers have undergone specific tests regarding Legionella proliferation. Certified laboratory test reports demonstrate that these bacteria do not proliferate inside the machine when supplied with potable water.

Exclusive Filtration and Air Purification Technology

Another significant technical feature of ColdAIR coolers is the exclusive and patented Health technology for filtering and purifying the air drawn from outside.
